John 1:1-5
The light that breaks through

Christmas is a celebration of light, in the midst of winter, in the midst of short and dark days. The sun is hidden by clouds and things can be gloomy. In this season of darkness, we light candles and wood fires, we pull out our strings of twinkle lights and adorn our spaces with them. In this season of darkness, we are longing for the light to break through. Christmas, although it is a celebration of the light, in some ways, it highlights the darkness we might feel in our lives. For those who are grieving, who are lonely, who are sick or carrying heavy loads - instead of light, it can just feel sluggish and dark. We are longing for the light to break through. This Sunday, however you are feeling about the season, we will be exploring how the light of Jesus does break through, how the darkness cannot overcome the light, no matter how pervasive it may feel.
